Spalted willow bowl
€95.00 +VAT
The spalted willow bowl is a beautiful representation of natural spalting, which creates the dark, intricate lines throughout the wood. This process occurs when the wood is subject to certain fungi that cause discoloration and patterned streaking, making each piece truly unique.
The bowl has a shallow form with smooth curves, bringing out the wood’s grain and spalting characteristics. The lighter tones of the willow are contrasted by the spalting marks, giving the bowl a very organic and rustic feel. Its thin rim and clean lines make it a practical yet artistic piece, suitable for both display and everyday use.
Willow wood, while softer than some other hardwoods, is known for its flexibility and lightness, which makes it pleasant to work with on the lathe. The resulting bowl maintains the warmth of the natural wood, and its spalted features add a touch of character and uniqueness to its overall appearance.
This is a great example of how woodturning can showcase the inherent beauty of natural materials while creating a functional item. The bowl’s craftsmanship enhances the spalting patterns, making it a fine addition to any collection or home setting.
This piece is 245mm wide x 70mm high.
